In this pill pack, you will get 1 pill of mifepristone and 4 pills of misoprostol. The mifepristone pills are of 200 mg strength whilst the misoprostol pills are of 200 mcg (micrograms) each. So the total strength of misoprostol pills is 800 mcg.
How many MTP Kits do I require in the first trimester?
In your 1st trimester, you will require 1 MTP Kit if you are 5 weeks pregnant or lesser. In case your pregnancy has exceeded 5 weeks of pregnancy you will have to take two MTP Kits.
How do these termination pills work?
The Mifepristone pills are the synthetic pill that blocks the progesterone hormone and the Misoprostol pills create contractions in the uterus and dilate the entire fetal tissue which then gets expelled out through vaginal discharge.
How to take the doses of MTP Kit?
If your pregnancy age is until 5 weeks or lesser then you will have to start your 1st dose with the single mifepristone pill. After this pill is taken you will have to wait for 24 hours then you will start with the 2nd dose that will consist of 2 doses of misoprostol pill, after this, you will have to take the 3rddose that will again be of 2 doses of misoprostol pills. You have to take mifepristone orally with the help of water and the misoprostol pill buccally by keeping them in the cheek pouch and allowing them to dissolve with saliva. After half an hour of taking the misoprostol pills, you can take a glass of water.
If you have crossed 5 weeks of pregnancy and taking two MTP Kits then you should take one pill of mifepristone orally with a glass of water after half an hour take the second pill of mifepristone from the second kit orally with the glass of water. After 24 hours you will start with the misoprostol dose.
Take two misoprostol pills and keep it in your cheek pouch after 3 hours take another 2 misoprostol pills and keep it in your cheek pouch again give a gap of 3 hours and keep 2 misoprostol pills from the 2nd MTP kit in your cheek pouch and lastly after 3 hours keep the remaining 2 misoprostol pills in your cheek pouch.
When should these pills not be taken?
You should not take the MTP Kit if you are allergic to any of the key abortion pills mifepristone and misoprostol.
The abortion pills containing in this MTP Kit do not work if your pregnancy is ectopic, hence we always recommend you to get an ultrasound sound and confirm your pregnancy type. Use abortion pills for abortion only when your pregnancy is uterine.
You should not use these abortion pills if your age is below 18 years, if your age is above 35 years then you should take the doctor’s advice and only then you should take these abortion pills.
Make sure if you are taking abortion pills at home then your nearest health clinic should be only at a distance of half an hour so that you can go there in case of emergency.
Do not take these pills if you are suffering from any cardiovascular disorder, angina, severe anemia, chronic adrenal failure, inherited porphyria or have any bleeding disorders or any intrauterine disorder.
What are the side-effects to be encountered?
You will suffer from vaginal bleeding and stomach cramps which are higher than the normal menses. Some rarely face the problem of vomiting and nausea and some cases it is seen that women suffer from diarrhea also. A list of side-effects that women who were under abortion trials have undergone are: a headache, dizziness, fatigue, back pain, uterine hemorrhage, vaginitis, anxiety, leukorrhea, sinusitis, fainting, asthenia, leg pain, syncope.
In case of no bleeding or incomplete abortion, a further surgical abortion is recommended, but you should not continue the pregnancy as this can be hazardous for the mother and this can lead to invalid birth in future.
What are the drug interactions of this kit?
Reactions with mifepristone - Although the mifepristone has not shown any specific drug interaction According to the metabolism of the drug, it is quite possible that ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, and grapefruit juice may impede the work of mifepristone and increase the level of serums in the mifepristone. Further anticonvulsants may decrease the serum levels and induce the mifepristone metabolism.
Reactions with misoprostol - Even misoprostol has not shown any high-end contraindications but if any kind of oxytocin treatment is taken then misoprostol can augment its work if taken within 4 hours.
Overdose problem
No serious side-effects have been registered in case of abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol but in case if it overdoses it may lead to acute signs of adrenal failure.
In case women under doses herself then it can lead to the problem of fetal malformation.
Adverse effects of hospitalization, blood transfusion, ongoing pregnancy, or any major complications have not yet been reported if the dosage structure is maintained as directed.
How to confirm abortion?
Onçe 2 weeks have passed you can take an ultrasound test to confirm whether your pregnancy and only after 4 weeks you can undergo urine test to confirm your abortion. Do not undertake ultrasound before 2 weeks or urine test before 4 weeks as some parts of pregnancy still remain in the body and can prove your abortion to be negative.
